PUBLIC SAFETY— SURREY FIRE SERVICE

HEALTH & WELLNESS

• Conducted employee health screening which included; blood/urine screening for all staff 45 years of age and older with medical oversight; • Received the Canadian Fire Chiefs Association’s Firefighter Cancer Prevention Award recognizing Surrey Fire Service’s collaboration with the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Local 1271 in providing firefighters with a preventative health screening program which includes baseline blood testing, clinical cancer prevention education and sleep and nutritional guidance aimed at lowering cancer risks;

• Provided cholesterol awareness and longevity sessions to all staff; and • Created a dedicated breakroom space for dispatch staff.

INFRASTRUCTURE

• Emergency Operations Centre (“EOC”) training was delivered to 114 staff through the various training opportunities provided throughout the year to add resilience in the City. Training is offered through an annual tabletop exercise, Surrey Learns online platform, as well as training offered to local authorities through regional emergency management groups. In total, 2,267 hours of training was completed to support the city’s response to a large disaster and expedite the recovery process.
