PUBLIC SAFETY—SURREY FIRE SERVICE

FUTURE INITIATIVES, GOALS & OBJECTIVES

INCLUSION

• Continue to pursue internal and external opportunities to diversify firefighter recruitment through local partnerships with educational institutions, businesses and athletic organizations; • Enhance positive public interactions with the first responders, by delivering cultural sensitivity training to staff to help break down barriers as well as promote an inclusive work environment; and

• Create opportunities for youth to gain experience and exposure to the job requirements associated with a career in firefighting by implementing an accredited youth academy in partnership with Surrey Schools.

PUBLIC SAFETY

• Maintain and review effectiveness of various programs that lead to Community Risk Reduction for fire and life safety.

ECONOMIC PROSPERITY & LIVELIHOODS

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, flexibility and resilience of the capital fleet replacement process; • Continue to promote the City’s online application processes to increase use of the more streamlined and cost efficient service delivery method; and

Support the city’s resilience in a disaster through enhancements of the emergency program and compliance with the new regulations of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act.

ECOSYSTEMS

• Support the City’s greenhouse gas and fuel-reduction objectives by integrating modern technologies into new apparatus, expanding the hybrid fleet, and increasing the use of electric small equipment.
