PUBLIC SAFETY

• Analyzed motor vehicle collision data to find patterns and measure Vision Zero mitigation efforts; • Communicated updates on Vision Zero, including proposed speed limit reductions on priority corridors and enhanced traffic calming near schools and parks; • Finalized the Surrey Cycling Strategy, connecting Surrey’s town centres, improving access to rapid transit, and linking people to key destinations like parks, community centres, and grocery stores; • Finalized the Sidewalk Action Plan which prioritizes sidewalk projects that Implemented Leading Pedestrian Intervals (“LPIs”) at an additional nine signalized intersections, bringing the total to 150 across the City. This measure prioritizes pedestrian safety during roadway crossings; • Responded to over 30,000 public service requests addressing traffic safety, electrical maintenance, street operations, and road maintenance concerns; • To support emergency response and road safety, Surrey’s Traffic Management Centre responded to over 2,500 traffic collisions and incidents, made more than 5,000 real time traffic signal adjustments, and addressed over 600 traffic system alerts across the city; provide safer routes to school and better access to transit, parks, and grocery stores; •

• Implemented 12 new speed reader boards as part of a pilot program to help reduce traffic speeds and improve safety primarily near parks and schools; • Installed 30 speed humps and speed tables to reduce neighborhood vehicle speeds, including four schools and seven parks; • Added 22 new crosswalks, including pedestrian signals and ones with flashing yellow lights, to make walking safer and easier for everyone; and • Added 2,200 LED fixtures upgrades through the Capital Program and Land Development, achieving 58% LED streetlight coverage citywide to improve energy efficiency, walkability and road safety.
