SOLID WASTE

• Launched public awareness and education campaigns to promote a waste drop-off event, clean blitz and change illegal dumping behavior. The focus of the campaigns was promoting and educating residents on the various options to dispose of unwanted items. Multicultural outlets, primarily in the Punjabi language, were utilized to engage the Punjabi and South Asian community. These outlets included REDFM, Sher-E-Punjab, Connect FM radio stations and Channel Punjabi, Prime Asia TV television stations.

ECOSYSTEMS

• Achieved a reduction in residential garbage tonnage of 34%; • Surrey Biofuel Facility processed 100,000 metric tonnes of organic waste generating 61,500 gigajoules of renewable natural gas (“RNG”); Diverted 88% of construction and demolition waste from the landfill and ensured that these waste materials were recycled through the Demolition and New Construction Recyclables Program; •

• Worked with Convertus on a potential long-term expansion strategy for expanding the Surrey Biofuel Facility to support Metro Vancouver’s in-region solution for managing organic waste including design concepts and financial model; and • Collaborated with Metro Vancouver to complete the rezoning of land to permit expansion of the North Surrey Recycling and Waste Centre and design for a full-scale recycling depot which will increase convenient recycling options for residents and businesses.
