Appendix 1 – Surrey 2050

Destination Spaces means a strategically developed public area-including a plaza, park, library, transit hub, or cultural facility-designed to attract residents and visitors. These spaces integrate high-quality infrastructure with unique cultural identities to foster a "sense of place" and provide visible platforms for local art, history, and community events.

means a centralized system that generates and distributes heating and cooling (thermal energy) to multiple buildings in a neighbourhood through underground pipes. means the benefits provided by natural systems — like forests, wetlands, and rivers — that support human well-being and city functions. These include regulating services (flood control, air cleaning, carbon storage), provisioning (water, food), and cultural services (recreation, mental health). means the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the materials and construction processes throughout a building’s lifecycle, including from the manufacturing, transportation, installation, maintenance and disposal of materials.

means residential units with three or more bedrooms.

Frequent Bus Stop Areas

means an area within a prescribed distance from a bus stop with transit frequency and timing served by at least one bus route as shown in Schedule F of the Zoning Bylaw . means a network of transit corridors containing transit service that is scheduled at a frequency of 15 minutes or better in both directions throughout the day and into the evening, every day of the week.

means multi-use pathways for pedestrians, cyclists and other non-motorized users.

Greenway

Green Infrastructure Network (GIN)

means an interconnected system of natural areas and open spaces that conserves ecosystems and functions, while providing benefits to both wildlife and people.

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions

mean gases emitted by human activities that are driving climate change, including carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), nitrous oxides, methane, and fluorinated gases.

means a catalogue of properties, events, natural features that have been determined to have heritage significance by resolution of Council.

Heritage Register

Heritage Revitalization Agreements (HRA)

means a bylaw between the City and the owner of a heritage property which may vary requirements found in other by-laws and City regulations, either by being more restrictive or providing relaxations to bylaw requirements. means a statutory planning document prepared by local government to assess current and projected housing demand across income levels, household types, and tenures, and to identify gaps between housing needs and housing supply within the community.
