Many communities throughout Surrey held annual May Day celebrations, including Fleetwood, as captured in this photo from back in May 15 of 1958. As part of the festivities, small groups of children, about six to eight, formed a circle around a tall wooden pole (the maypole) each holding a long ribbon which was tied to the pole. The girls wore white dresses and the boys white shirts and dark trousers. Historic Stewart Farm continues the tradition on May. 19. Image courtesy of the Surrey Archives. SM.918
